Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles laments the passing to a authentic original whose legacy on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
