The Showrunner Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the hit program wrapping up—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
